Our Balcony Garden Blooms Again!

We’ve only gone and done it again! Our Balcony Garden has won the ‘Thriving – Level 4’ Neighbourhood Award for the second year in a row.

We entered our Balcony Garden into The Britain in Bloom & Royal Horticultural Society (North West) competition for the second year in a row and achieved and maintained our ‘Thriving – Level 4’ Neighbourhood Award.

Throughout the spring and summer, students from our 10 local schools across the borough, EBFT and Albany Staff worked to bring our Balcony back to life to again create a beautiful space and scenic view for passers by in the wider community. This year, we added to the balcony entry our allotment hosted and supported by RRUFC. The allotment brings the opportunity to work outside in open space, understand where food comes from and the growth cycle, how environmental conditions can impact and take the fruit and veg’ from ‘field to plate’ and enjoy the produce together in our cooking sessions when used as ingredients in our journey around the world via food.

To support the judging, we used some of our young people’s skills and technology to produce a short video, posted on our You Tube Channel, EBFT-TV. Please take the time to take a look if you haven’t already.

This is a fantastic piece of work and competition which creates opportunities and brings communities together. We were proud to attend the presentation event earlier this month to receive the Award on behalf of all who contributed – thankyou, congratulations and well done all!!
